Sony Posts Q4 Profit Rise and Upgrades Full-Year Forecast

Sony, a major player in both electronics and entertainment, reported a 3% gain in profit during the last quarter of the year, showing strong performance primarily in its financial services, games, and music divisions. The company’s quarterly sales also marked an 18% increase, contributing to an overall profit of 373.7 billion yen for October through December.

Additionally, Sony disclosed that its cumulative profit from April to December experienced a significant 21% rise, reaching 943.9 billion yen. This performance led the Tokyo-based firm to adjust its full-year profit forecast upward to 1.08 trillion yen, up from a previous projection of 980 billion yen.

The upward revision of its profit forecast not only reflects a boost from favorable foreign exchange rates but also highlights the growing contribution of network services. While Sony’s PlayStation 5 continues to be a key revenue driver even five years after launch, the company has not yet revealed any details about a forthcoming successor.
