AAP makes masks mandatory in public places

AAP government has made masks mandatory in public places and a fine of 500 rupees will be imposed due to the sudden surge in coronaviruses cases in the Delhi-NCR region ahead of the festive season.

The rule will not apply to those travelling together in a private car, according to a notice issued by the additional district magistrate office of South Delhi.

The national capital region has seen a rise in Covid cases for the past few days. The happiness rate went up to 17.85% on Monday, the highest since January 21. The mask rule was lifted in April this year by the AAP, but was imposed as Delhi saw a surge in the number of Covid cases. Most people have been ignoring basic Covid-appropriate behaviour in public places of late.

The death toll from Covid 19 was 26,351, as of August 10th. The number of deaths in the month of August is 32, compared to 14 deaths last month. The number of deaths recorded on August 10 was the highest in nearly 180 days. In June, three deaths were reported in the first week, while 50 were recorded in the entire month.

A new subvariant of the Omicron variant is the cause of the recent spike, according to a recent study at the LNJP Hospital. The medical director of LNJP Hospital, Suresh Kumar, said that Omicron's new subvariant, BA 2.75, has a higher transmission rate.

The deaths are mostly among people who have co-morbidities or are suffering from diseases like cancer, tuberculosis, or others, according to medical officials.

A total of 520 Covid patients are admitted to Delhi hospitals, according to government data. In Delhi, the occupancy of dedicated Covid hospitals is around 5.7%.

In the last 24 hours, there were 20,551 new coronaviruses reported in India. The total tally has risen to 4,41, 07,588, while the active cases have declined to 1,35, 364, as per the data shared by the Union Health Ministry. The death toll has reached 5,26, 600.
