Airbnb to make permanent ban on so-called party homes

After the prohibition was put in place in August 2020, Airbnb Inc said on Tuesday it will make permanent its ban on parties in homes listed on its platform.

Since the policy was implemented, the company has seen a 44% drop in the rate of party reports.

The party ban was extended after the San Francisco-based company introduced and extended the ban to halt the spread of COVID 19 infections. The ban is going to be made permanent as the summer travel season begins.

This is an issue where I don't know if there is a finish line, said Ben Breit, a company spokesman, adding that Airbnb will continue to work to address the issue.

The company will remove its 16-person limit, allowing larger homes listed on the platform to be booked to full occupancy.

In the year 2019 Airbnb imposed stricter limits, starting with a ban on so-called party houses or listings that cause a persistent neighborhood nuisance.

Airbnb removed the event friendly search filter and party and event allowed house rules in order to reflect the pandemic.

More than 6,600 guests and some hosts were suspended in 2021 for trying to violate the party ban, the company said.

Revenues were up 70% from the previous year, bringing in $1.5 billion in the first quarter of 2022, according to the company in May 2022. The company believes that revenue will be above market estimates for the second quarter of the year, and expects to bring in between $2.03 billion and $2.13 billion.
