Airlines, Delta, Southwest announce travel disruptions ahead of Hurricane Ian

Major airlines and airports are announcing travel disruptions to and from the Sunshine State as Floridians prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Ian.

Many airlines, including American, Delta, JetBlue, Spirit and Southwest, allow travelers to change their travel plans without any fees or fare differences, FOX 35 Orlando reports.

The Tampa International Airport TPA will suspend all operations on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5 p.m. The airport will be closed for all visitors at that time.

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport PIE will close at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 due to mandatory evacuation orders from Pinellas County and remain closed until the evacuation order is lifted. The Orlando International Airport MCO tweeted: Hurricane Ian Commercial operations at MCO will stop at 10: 30 a.m. Wednesday Sept. 28. Entry to all parking facilities will be closed at that time. Southwest Florida International Airport RSW tweeted that Southwest Airlines has canceled all flights for Sept. 28 and that customers should go to the airline's website for more information and to book.

Southwest has allowing people who are scheduled to fly to or out of several Florida airports this week to book their travel fans without any additional charges. Travel must be rebooked within 14 days.

The waiver is being offered at these airports:

Between Sept. 25 and Sept. 30, 2022, Delta Air Lines is issuing travel waivers for people traveling to several Florida destinations, including Orlando, Gainesville, Daytona Beach, Tampa and Tallahassee. Travel waiver means that the fare difference will be waived if rebooked travel happens on or before October 3, 2022. There is a travel waiver for these destinations.

JetBlue will waive change or cancel fees for those who fly to or from certain airports in Florida ahead of Hurricane Ian, and will waive change or cancel fees and fair differences. Flights must be from the following airports: Monday, Sept. 26, 2022, and Friday, Sept. 30, 2022.

Between Sept. 23, 2022 and Oct. 1, 2022, American Airlines will waive change fees for people flying to or from several Florida airports, including Daytona Beach, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and Panama City.

As long as travel is rescheduled in the original ticketed cabin, any fare class, and between the same cities as originally ticketed, the change fee and any difference in fare will be waived. This option is for travelers who booked their original tickets by Sept. 23 for travel through Sept. 30, and applies to 11 Florida airports. Spirit passengers traveling to or from Fort Myers, Orlando or Tampa between Sept. 27, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2022, can rebook their trip without additional charges due to Hurricane Ian. The travel must be rebooked by October 3, 2022.

Customers who purchased tickets on or before Sept. 26, 2022, or Sept. 30, 2022, may make one itinerary change restrictions - rules restrictions on standard change fees, advance purchase, day or time applications, blackouts, minimum or maximum stay requirements, and minimum or maximum stay requirements will be waived. The travel must be completed no later than October 10, 2022. Origin and destination cities may be changed. Customers whose flights are canceled can request a refund.

Frontier has enacted the following guidelines aimed at helping customers scheduled to travel between September 27, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2022, with the expected impact on travel conditions from Hurricane Ian moving through the southeastern United States for Florida.
