All 6 killed in Russian plane crash in East, officials say

All six people on board an ageing Antonov An - 26 transport plane that crashed the previous day in Russia's far east by Japan has been killed, Russia's emergency services ministry said on Thursday.

The plane, which the TASS news agency said was belonging to a company that performed technical checks at Russian airports and was 42 years old, vanished from radar screens on Wednesday night. The emergency services ministry said on Thursday it had found the wreckage in hard access terrain and that a rescue team hiked for more than five hours to reach the location.

Unfortunately, as a result of the crash there are no survivors, Ministry said in a statement.

The Russian aviation safety standards have improved in recent years. But accidents are not uncommon, especially involving ageing aircrafts in far-flung regions. All 28 people on board an Antonov An - 26 twin engine turboprop died in a crash in Kamchatka in the Far East, also in the East.
