Amazon plans to close several call centres in U.S.

On Wednesday, Bloomberg News reported on the matter that Amazon.com Inc is planning to close several call centres in the United States in a move toward remote working.

Cloud call centre companies such as Five 9 saw a boom in business because of the COVID 19 pandemic and accelerated the shift to remote working across most industries.

Amazon is encouraging its customer service employees to work from home in order to save money on real estate, according to the report.

Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud computing division, also sells Amazon Connect software that allows companies to serve their customers using remote networks.

Amazon is working with employees to make sure that transition to remote work is seamless, a spokesman for the company told Reuters, but did not comment on the planned closure of call centres.
