Amtrak train crashes into dump truck in Missouri, killing 3

An Amtrak passenger train from Los Angeles to Chicago derailed and struck a dump truck at an uncontrolled crossing in a rural area of Missouri, killing three people on the train and one in the truck. The train crashed into a dump truck at a public railroad crossing in Mendon, Missouri at 1: 42 p.m. local time.

Amtrak said 243 passengers and 12 crew members were on board.

Justin Dunn of the Missouri State Highway Patrol elaborated at a press conference, stating that the collision happened at an uncontrolled crossing with no lights or electronic devices. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced on Monday that the Federal Railroad Administration was en route to Missouri to support the investigation.
