Apple expected to unveil more powerful Mac laptops on Monday

Analysts expect Apple Inc to release new Mac laptop computers with more powerful processor chips during an event that will be streamed later on Monday. Bloomberg reported earlier that Apple has plans to release two new MacBook Pro models with 14-inch and 16-inch screens. The Cupertino, California-based company introduced some new laptop models last year that used some Apple Silicon chips, which it said would be phased in over the course of two years to help speed up the company's laptop lineup. Before Monday, we still relied on Chips from Intel Corp. for Apple s most powerful laptops. The company has already built a second M1 chip and employing this chip in some MacBooks as well as its Mac Mini and iMac desktop machines, however the new larger MacBook Pro models are expected to feature a first generation of the company chip. The new chip, along with a general increase in laptop sales as employees and students stocked up on the basic hardware to learn and work from home, caused a boom in Mac sales during the pandemic. In Apple fiscal 2020, revenue increased 11% to $28.6 billion, even though iPhone revenue declined 3%. The expected Macbook Pro announcement comes weeks after Apple re-designed its iPhone, Apple Watch and iPad lineups. Some analysts believe that Apple on Monday will also update its AirPods Wireless ear buds, though rumors of an update have circulated before other Apple events this year without coming to pass. Add-on devices such as AirPods tend to be huge sellers during holiday shopping seasons and have become one of Apple's fastest growing categories, with its Home and Accessories segment growing 25% to $30.6 billion in Apple fiscal 2020.
