Argentina hikes interest rates for 8th time this year

The benchmark Leliq rate in Argentina was raised by Bloomberg -- Argentina to 69.5%, representing the largest hike in almost three years.

There isn't a cooling effect on US inflation than forecast, easing pressure on Fed.

The rate was raised by 950 basis points, the eighth increase this year, according to a statement. It follows an 800 basis point hike just two weeks ago. Central bank officials have raised rates only once a month for the past few months.

People with direct knowledge of the matter who asked not to be named said that the central bank had told traders that it was offering its Leliq note at a rate of 69.5%. It was the largest increase since August 2019.

Argentina s annual inflation is expected to have surged past 70% after renewed political turmoil fueled price spikes and currency rout, according to the annual inflation released Thursday at 4 p.m. in Buenos Aires.
