Baby seal found in wheat farmer’s crop

A wheat farmer has been given the shock of his life after he found a baby seal in his crop this morning.

The pup strayed almost three kilometres from the coast on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula in Mitchellville, farmer TY Kayden said.

Our neighbour called me up and said 'quick, you better come over and have a look, there is a baby seal in our driveway,' he said.

I thought he was just pulling my leg to start off with.

There was a little three-foot baby seal on the edge of the wheat crop.

I've never seen them up around this area. The farmers in the area are used to encountering pests, but Mr Kayden didn't expect to find this very cute pup.

It was taken back to the ocean and gathered up.

We put a towel over it and put it in a plastic box in the ute.

We let it go on the beach, probably around three kilometres down the beach through scrub.

It shuffled off into the water, lucky it was high tide.

It's hoped that it has found some fish. It is hoped that it survives.
