Bosnia and Herzegovina's political parties dominate presidency

The results of the general elections held on October 2, 2014 in Bosnia and Herzegovina BiH showed the continuation of the dominance of national political parties at the level of BiH, both entities and cantons. A social democrat, instead of the candidate of the strongest Bosniak party, entered the Presidency of BiH as a representative of the Bosniak people.

On the basis of 91.97 percent of processed polling stations, Denis Becirovic, the candidate of the united opposition United for a free BiH, and Zeljka Cvijanovic of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats SNSD, enter the BiH Presidency.

According to these results, the Democratic Front DF candidate Zeljko Komsic has more votes than the Croatian Democratic Union HDZ BiH candidate Borjana Kristo.

The most votes for the BiH Parliament, the Party of Democratic Action SDA and SNSD came from 83.39 percent of processed polling stations.

According to 90.04 percent of processed polling stations for the President of Republika Srpska RS Milorad Dodik received 48.80 percent of the votes, and Jelena Trivic from the Party of Democratic Progress PDP 42.69 percent.

Social Democrat Denis Becirovic said to the European Union to grant candidate status to BiH as soon as possible, and to the citizens to unite around the future.

We don't have time for arguments. He emphasized that this mandate should be a mandate for the development of progress and cooperation.

Zeljka Cvijanovic, who received the highest number of votes for the member of the BiH Presidency from the RS 52.67 percent based on 92.72 percent of the processed ballots, said she will defend the interests of the RS in the BiH Presidency.

She stated that I was elected on the territory of the RS and a member of the BiH Presidency to defend the interests of the RS, and to act in accordance with the Constitution, and not to watch how other members vote.

SDA and SNSD dominance in the state parliament are the main factors behind SDA and SNSD dominance.

The SDA won 24.87 percent of the votes, followed by the HDZ BiH with 19.43 percent and the Social Democratic Party SDP won 12.42 percent, according to the data from the Central Election Commission CEC of BiH.

When it comes to RS, SNSD won 42.44 percent of the votes for the state parliament, followed by SDS with 18.83 percent and the Party of Democratic Progress 11.17 percent.

On the day of the general elections in BiH on October 2, the special representative of the international community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, amended the election law of BiH and the constitution of the FBiH. He stated that the goal is to prevent repeating blockades in the formation of the government of the BiH entity.

Since the 2014 elections, the government of the FBiH has not been formed because the HDZ opposed it and insists on changes to the Election Law and legitimate representation. The essence of the decisions of the high representative is to the part of the government that is elected indirectly and not by the votes of the voters.

In the explanation of Schmidt's decision, the Office of the High Representative OHR stated that it was a package of measures that will improve the functionality of the entity and ensure the timely implementation of the results of the elections held on October 2, 2022, according to Radio Slobodna Evropa.
