Bosnia and Herzegovina unpaid traffic fines

The Agency says that drivers in Bosnia and Herzegovina owe 72.2 million BAM for traffic violations, and the debt of the three biggest debtors alone amounts to nearly 430,000 BAM, while in third place is a driver from the Br ko District, whose fines amount to 75,820 BAM.

The Agency, as they say, is only responsible for the technical maintenance of the Register of fines and misdemeanor records application, but not for collection, according to Glas Srpska debts are owed for years.

Milenko Ja imovi, a member of the Council for Traffic Safety in Banja Luka, said that the authorities are guided by the strategy that only punitive measures can solve the traffic safety situation and reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries, but that this does not produce results, which is evidenced by the multi-year grafting of the sum of unpaid fines.

He stated that the current situation in society, which is a result of the global crisis and the pandemic, also contributes to the large non-payment of fines.

He believes that prison sentences are not a solution and there is no room for their implementation, because the penitentiary institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina are full of perpetrators of serious crimes.
