Bulgaria, Romania to join Schengen area

The efforts to maintain the flow along the Danube River are important for the economic exchange of the whole region, according to President Rumen Radev, who spoke to the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciuca in Sofia ahead of the official launch of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector.

In the words of the Bulgarian President, bilateral trade reached EUR 6.5 billion in 2021, but it does not exhaust the potential economic partnership between Bulgaria and Romania. President Radev and PM Ciuca agreed that the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area is a step towards the consolidation of regional security and stability.
