California Governor’s Office announces grant solicitations for cannabis equity program

On Monday, the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development GO-Biz announced that it is accepting grant solicitations for the Cannabis Equity Grants Program for Local Jurisdictions for the fiscal year 2022 -- 2023.

The purpose of the program is to promote economic justice for communities impacted by the War on Drugs and the Cannabis prohibition, by providing support to local jurisdictions to promote equity in California and to eliminate barriers to entry into the cannabis industry.

The goal of eliminating or reducing the illegal cannabis market by bringing more people into the legal market is to be helped by technical support, regulatory compliance assistance and assistance with securing the capital necessary to start a business reducing barriers to licensure and employment in the regulated industry, according to GO-Biz.

Local jurisdictions are those that have adopted or operated a cannabis equity program or a city, county, or city or county that demonstrate an intent to develop a cannabis equity program.
