On August 9, 2022, Tesla, Inc electric vehicles charge at a supercharger location in Hawthorne, California. PATRICK T. FALLON AFP China is worried about the US Inflation Reduction Act's discriminatory electric vehicle subsidy provisions, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.

There are provisions that allow subsidies on pre-conditions, such as localized assembly of whole vehicles in North America, which is discrimination against relevant imported products, Shu Jueting, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Commerce, said at a media conference.

She said the provisions are suspected of being in violation of the principles of the World Trade Organization, such as most-favored nation treatment and national treatment.

She said that the United States should implement relevant investment policies under WTO rules and maintain a fair-competition based trade order, as a member of the WTO, and will take measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests if necessary.
