Cong. will regain form, says former CM Harish Rawat

New Delhi India January 22 ANI Congress leader Harish Rawat used a cricket analogy to describe the current situation of the party, stating that its form was down nationally and the party will regain it.

He said the party is in full form in poll-bound Uttarakhand.

The former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, who is the party's face in the state for the upcoming elections, told the ANI in an interview that people were returning to the Congress.

People are coming back to Congress. There is a time in the history of every party. Like they sometimes say a batsman gets out of form, at this time our form is little down but not out, it is down, we will regain it, we want to assure the country, he said.

The former Chief Minister said he had made the remarks about the party in the context of the whole country, asked about the import of his remarks with less than a month left for polls in Uttarakhand.

We are in full form in Uttarakhand. In Uttarakhand, the bench strength of Congress in-form batsmen is in great numbers and we are facing a problem of managing that. He said we are in full form, referring to the number of aspirants for party tickets.

He said regional parties gaining at some places at the cost of Congress was a very temporary phase. Harish Rawat was responding to a question about Congress conceding space to regional parties.

The former Chief Minister said regional parties have not been very successful except in southern parts of the country, especially Tamil Nadu, besides Odisha and now Bengal. He said that these parties have been successful as they have followed the policies of Congress.

There has been some success in Tamil Nadu, not elsewhere, because of the new culture different from Congress, he said.

Harish Rawat said that the party always decides by looking ahead and its decision is supreme, as he was asked about the induction of expelled BJP leader Harak Singh Rawat in the Congress.

He is part of the party, and it's good to know that he's part of the party. The decisions within the party are made on the basis of various ideas. The party always decides by looking ahead. The decision of the party is supreme, he said.

Harish Rawat was seen to be uncomfortable with Harak Singh Rawat's entry into the party and had informed the party leadership about his views.

Harak Singh Rawat was disbanded from the Uttarakhand Cabinet and was expelled from the BJP on Monday for anti-party activities. He was one of the 10 MLAs who had left the Congress in 2016 and joined the BJP.
