Coronavirus | New rules for Omicron variant: Health Secretary Javid

This may include advertisements from us and 3rd parties based on our understanding. There are 52 countries that have cases of the Omicron variant, which is spreading across the globe. Speaking from the Commons this afternoon, Mr Javid said there were 261 confirmed cases of Omicron in England, 71 in Scotland and four in Wales.

The number of confirmed Omicron cases in the UK is 336. Cases with no links to international travel are included, according to Javid. The Health Secretary said there was now community transmission across multiple regions in the UK. What are the measures Javid has announced today? Here are the latest Covid rules and how they could affect you.

Coronaviruses: Experts warn that one in three colds are caused by the disease Mr Javid told the commons 21 Omicron cases in England have been linked to travel from Nigeria and will be added to the travel Red List. Everyone arriving in the UK must have taken a coronavirus test 48 hours before their departure, as per a coronavirus test at 4 am on Tuesday. This applies to all travellers vaccinated or unvaccinated from the age of 12 and above. Lateral flow tests are cheaper and quicker than PCR tests.

NHS tests can't be used for international travel, so people have to purchase a test from a private company. The measures will be temporary while we improve our understanding of Omicrons, Javid said. The Government will review data pertaining to the Omicron variant and the House of Commons will be updated next week. The Health Secretary has also announced measures to strengthen vital defences here at home. Javid detailed a new treatment that has been approved by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. He urged those who are eligible to step forward and receive their vaccine and booster jab. The UK has delivered 450,000 booster jabs in a single day, with 10,000 new vaccine workers being hired. He said that vaccines would be available at 1,500 pharmacies, as well as dedicated vaccine centres and new hospital hubs.
