Cuban President says fire in industrial zone caused by oil tank

We are closely following the confrontation with the fire in the industrial zone. President Miguel D az-Canel said we trust the authorities of the brave province, the brave firefighters, and the CUPET workers.

Cuba's state-owned media said no deaths had been reported.

No human losses, injuries or fuel spillage into the sea were reported after the fire, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

According to Susely Morfa Gonz lez, the first secretary of the Community Party of Cuba in the province of Matanzas, an electrical discharge at the base of the oil tank, which stores crude oil, caused the fire. The ministry said that the fire did not affect the Thermoelectric Powerplant Antonio Guiteras, which contributes to the national electricity system. The authorities of the province, the fire department, the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of Interior are fighting the flames, said Gonz lez.
