Disney employees will cover travel costs to get abortions

Since the ruling, a growing number of companies have confirmed that they will cover travel costs through their health insurance plans for employees who leave their home state to get an abortion.

Disney told employees it recognised the impact of the Supreme Court ruling and remained committed to giving them comprehensive access to affordable healthcare, including family planning and reproductive care, no matter where they live. Disney employs around 80,000 people at its resort in Florida, where the ban on abortions is due to take effect on 1 July.

According to Reuters, Goldman Sachs, a leading US investment bank, said it would cover travel expenses for employees who needed to go to another state to get an abortion from July 1st.

Lyft said that it would legally shield drivers in abortion cases, and that no driver should have to ask a rider where they are going and why abortion will not automatically become illegal in the US - but individual states will be allowed to decide if and how to allow abortions.

Abortion is a very divisive issue in the US. A recent Pew survey found that 61% of adults say abortion should be legal all or most of the time, while 37% say it should be illegal all or most of the time.
