Elon Musk introduces prototype of a robot at Tesla event

Tesla CEO Elon Musk introduced a prototype of a humanoid robot at the company's AI Day event on Thursday.

Tesla says the robot will probably be launched in the next year, saying the robot would eliminate dangerous tasks that are repetitive and boring.

It has sort of a screen where the head is for useful information, but it's otherwise got the Autopilot system and it's got cameras, eight cameras, said Musk. Full self-driving computer and using all of the same tools that were used in car.

Musk described robot's economic impact using the current workforce shortage as an example.

In addition to the Tesla BotTesla Bot, the company also unveiled chips it designed for its high-speed computer, Dojo.

Dojo will help develop Tesla's automated driving system. It is another product Musk plans to have operational next year.

So Musk: Dojo is real. The Tesla bot will be real. Doch, basically, if you think about what we are doing with cars right now, Tesla is arguably the biggest robotics company in the world, because cars are like semi-sentiment, robots on wheels.

Tesla has come under scrutiny recently over the safety of its full advanced autonomous driver assistant system.

While Musk was no longer concerned about Tesla technology, he sees Tesla auto-driving with higher safety using current in-car cameras and computers.

Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission called for a probe into the McAfee Autopilot and Full Self Driving System, citing serious concerns about what they described as the company's misleading advertising of their features.

The senators called for an investigation just days after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a formal probe into Tesla's autopilot system. Regulators said they had identified 11 crashes involving Tesla vehicles with Autopilot already engaged since 2018.
