Around 13.22 lakh new members joined the ESI scheme in August this year, compared to 13.33 lakh in July 2021.
The new enrollments with ESIC were 10.74 lakh in April, 8.88 lakh in May, 10.62 lakh in June and 13.33 lakh in July this year, according to the latest data.
The increase in enrollment in June and July shows an increase in enrollment after the easing of COVID-induced restrictions by states post the second wave of the Pandemic that hit the country in mid-April this year.
The report said gross new enrolments with ESIC from September 2017 to August 2021 were 5.56 crore.
In August, net new enrolments with the retirement fund body EPFO stood at 14.80 lakh, up from 13.15 lakh in July 2021, according to the report.
The report does not measure employment at a holistic level, but it gives different perspectives on the levels of employment in the formal sector.
