The European Union regrets the unjustified threat of the Russian Federation to end diplomatic relations with Bulgaria in response to Bulgaria's decision to expel 70 Russian embassy staff who were acting in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, according to the European External Action Service EEAS on July 1.
Bulgaria's decision is a sovereign decision and must be respected, said Oana Lungescu, NATO's Spokesperson on Friday. NATO Allies strongly condemn Russia's coercive behavior and attempts to interfere in our democratic processes and institutions and to target the security of our citizens. The North Atlantic Alliance is in solidarity with its ally Bulgaria, said Lungescu.
