Experts warn of extended pandemic as large number of people are unvaccinated

There is a growing concern about an extended pandemic as a large number of people are unvaccinated, increasing the chances of more coronaviruses.

Andrea Taylor, Assistant Director of Programs at Duke Global Health Innovation Center, said that new variants surfacing is exactly what experts have been warning about for months.

We saw what happened to India, which gave rise to the Delta variant. We said, Look, this is going to happen in Africa, where there is uncontrolled transmission. Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of the GAVI Alliance, said that getting vaccinated is important in limiting new variants, even though the Omicron variant is still shrouded in mystery.

As long as large portions of the world population are unvaccinated, variants will continue to appear, and the epidemic will continue to be prolonged, he said.

Major vaccine manufacturers such as Moderna and AstraZeneca have stated that they continue to seek ways to modify their shots to the troubling mutated strain of the virus.

Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy have discovered cases of the new Omicron variant.

Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister, has declared new protocols to better control the spread.

We will require anyone entering the U.K. to take a PCR test by the end of the second day after their arrival and self-isolate until they have a negative result, Johnson said.

President Biden said on Monday that the Omicron coronaviruses strain was cause for concern, but not a cause for panic.
