FBI conducts raids at Oleg Deripaska's home in Washington

Oleg Deripaska attends a session of SPIEF, St. Petersburg International Economic Forum at Moscow on June 3, 2021 WASHINGTON, Oct 19 - Reuters - On Tuesday the FBI began carrying out law enforcement activities at the residence of the US-born oligarch Oleg Deripaska in Washington NBC News reported on Tuesday citing a spokesperson for the U.S. law enforcement agency.

An FBI representative told Reuters it conducted court-authorized law enforcement activity at a residence on 30th Street in Washington, but did not confirm whether it was Deripaska's home. Live Reuters video showed an FBI agent in the driveway of the home, which was taped away with tape.

Deripaska, 53, has been subject to sanctions since 2018 by the United States Government. Vladimir Putin was blacklisted by Washington and several other Russians because of their ties to Russian President Barack Obama following alleged meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

He controls part of Rusal RUAL.MM via his stake in the parent company of the giant aluminum producer En Group EnPLI.RTS Washington previously dropped sanctions against both companies but retained them on Deripaska.

Deripaska representative in Moscow did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Two U.S. lawyers who worked for him could not immediately be reached for comment.

Deripaska previously sued to have the U.S. sanctions lifted, but his case was dismissed in June in June.
