Finnish pm apologizes for Covid exposure night out

Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin offered a public apology on Monday after being criticized for spending a night out in Helsinki after exposure to Covid - 19.

Marin, who is vaccinated, said she was told on Saturday that Foreign Affairs Minister Pekka Haavisto was positive after they were in close contact with each other. Marin said that she was told that no ministers were being told to not be asked to quarantine so long as they had two vaccine doses, because she said it was on her parliamentary phone.

She and her husband went about their evening in Helsinki, according to her Monday Facebook post. They met friends, went for dinner and spent time in the night. The prime minister's office later said that they had sent further text messages on Saturday recommending that they avoid contact with other people.

She apologized, saying she did not have her second phone with her when the different guidance came through.

Marin was criticised for her evening out after a Finnish gossip magazine published a picture of her in a crowded nightclub.

She said in her Facebook post that I should have given better consideration on Saturday night.

Marin apologized Wednesday in an interview with the public broadcaster Yle.

She said I was wrong. I should have considered the situation more carefully.
