Hackers send racist and obscene messages to Apple News users

Many Apple News users received a push notification Tuesday containing racist and obscene language, the result of an apparent hack.

It was not known who Thrax was, or how many Apple AAPL users the alert was sent to, but it appeared to be widespread.

A similar message appeared on Fast Company's website, along with a claim from the hackers about how they were able to access the site's publishing tools. Fast Company took its site offline as a precaution, where users saw only a 404 Not Found error message, and the messages were deleted from the page. The company said in a tweet that Fast Company's Apple News account was hacked on Tuesday evening. Two obscene and racist push notifications were sent about a minute apart. The messages are vile and not in line with the content and ethos of Fast Company. We are investigating the situation and have suspended the feed shutdown at http: FastCompany.com until we are certain that the situation has been resolved. It was not clear whether the Apple News platform was compromised, or if the hack was entirely through Fast Company's web publishing tools. Apple didn't reply to a request for comment.
