BERTHA WANG AFP HONG KONG Hong Kong has suspended a rule that bans individual flights for bringing in COVID 19 patients, as it caused unnecessary trouble and inconvenience to residents of the global financial hub, the government said on Thursday.

A five-day flight ban will be imposed if at least five passengers or 5 percent of travelers, whichever is higher, test positive for COVID- 19 upon arrival in the city.

The government has now allowed non-residents from overseas to fly into the city from May 1 after a restriction that has been in place for more than two years.

From May 1 onwards, Hong Kong shortened mandatory hotel quarantine for passenger flight crews to three days from seven, while cargo crews were exempt.
