Hong Kong releases new regulations on UN sanctions against Congo, South Sudan

WANG YING XINHUA HONG KONG The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region released separate regulations on UN sanctions against Congo and South Sudan on Friday.

The United Nations Sanctions Democratic Republic of the Congo Regulations 2019 Amendment Regulation 2022 and the United Nations Sanctions South Sudan Regulations 2019 Amendment Regulation 2022 came into effect the same day.

The amendment to the DRC changes its prohibitions on the supply, sale, transfer or carriage of arms or related materiel to certain persons, making available to certain persons or entities funds or other financial assets, dealing with funds or economic resources belonging to, or owned or controlled by, certain persons or entities.

The South Sudan amendment regulation renews its prohibitions on the supply, sale, transfer, or carriage of arms or related material to South Sudan, the provision of technical assistance, training or financial assistance related to military activities in certain circumstances, dealing with funds or other financial assets belonging to, or owned or controlled by certain persons or entities, and entry into or transit through Hong Kong by certain persons or entities.
