Hong Kong reports 3,286 new COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths

3,014 of the new cases were locally acquired, the Centre for Health Protection CHP of the Department of Health said in a statement.

The total of 878 of the locally transmitted cases was detected by nucleic acid tests, while the rest 2,136 were detected through rapid antigen tests RATs.

According to the CHP, 254 of the imported cases tested positive by nucleic acid tests and 18 through RATs.

Among the specimens received by the Public Health Laboratory Services Branch during Sept 25 to Oct 1 for verification testing of local cases, about 3.1 percent and 90.3 percent are related to the sub-lineages BA. The CHP statement says that 5, including suspected cases, of the Omicron mutant strain.

According to the Hospital Authority, 1,651 patients, including 174 new ones, who have been diagnosed with COVID - 19 are currently hospitalized for treatment.

There are 35 patients in critical condition, of which 11 are receiving intensive care and 24 are serious in serious condition, the HA said in a statement that there are 215 patients who have recovered, including 164 patients who have been discharged.

The death of eight patients took the COVID death toll from COVID 19 to 10,184, it added.
