Hong Kong reports 5,990 new COVID cases, no more hotel quarantine

On September 23, 2022, people sit along the promenade in the Tsing Yi district of Hong Kong. The Centre for Health Protection said that the new cases comprised 117 imported infections and 3,780 local cases. Sunday's figure is lower than the 5,190 cases reported yesterday.

Those are linked to the Omicron subvariants BA. From Sept 16 to 22, 5 accounted for 85.5 percent of the local cases confirmed by the CHP.

It appealed to residents to be strict with social distancing measures and refrain from participating in unnecessary or mass gatherings to prevent the spread of the disease.

The Hospital Authority said a total of 2,066 COVID patients were being treated in hospitals, including 214 new patients.

Thirty-nine patients were in critical condition, including 13 receiving intensive care, while 40 were in serious condition, the HA said.
