Hong Kong’s Executive-elect meets with lawmakers

PHOTO HKSAR GOVERNMENT HONG KONG KONG-Chair Executive-elect John Lee Ka-chiuLee Ka-chiu met with two groups of Legislative Council LegCo members on Monday to exchange views on the work of the new-term government.

A statement issued on Monday night by the government said Lee met with members of the Liberal Party before holding discussions with another group of lawmkers.

During the two meetings, both sides exchanged views on various issues, including Hong Kong's economy, competitiveness, resumption of normal travel as well as land and housing, according to the statement.

Lee also briefed lawmakers on the proposed reorganization of the government structure and the proposed creation of the posts of deputy secretaries of departments.

He said the proposals could strengthen the government's top-level co-ordination capabilities, improve governance efficiency, and strengthen policy ownership.

Lee stressed that the creation of the posts of principal officials and supporting staff was proposed after in-depth analysis and is necessary.

Lee thanked the lawmakers for their comments and expressed the hope that the proposals would be supported by LegCo members, so that the new-term government can operate under the new government structure starting July 1, the statement said.

The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, G 19 and the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong all met last week with legislators from the Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong.
