Hong Kong sees over 110 new COVID-19 admissions despite 2,815 cases

The number of new admissions of COVID 19 patients reached over 110 on Wednesday, even though Hong Kong had 2,815 virus cases, according to the CALVIN NG CHINA DAILY HONG KONG Hospital Authority.

The Chief Manager Clinical Effectiveness and Technology Management at the HA, Gladys Kwan, said in a news briefing that they had 113 daily new cases on Wednesday, up from 30 to 40 in early June.

The daily new cases have stood over 100 in the past few weeks, especially in the past week. Kwan said that this is a cause for concern.

She said the number of admissions was about 400 at the beginning of June, but we now have around 830 cases staying at hospitals, an increase of over 100 percent. She is concerned that the gravity of the epidemic situation has increased.

Kwan said that the HA has already made preparations for a rebound, but added that members of the public should not let their guard down.

She said that if we're to admit a large number of patients in our hospitals, it will cause tremendous pressure on our public healthcare system.

She said that of the 830 patients being treated in public hospitals, 14 are in critical condition, including two in intensive care units and 18 in serious condition.

Kwan said that a 71-year-old female patient, who also had hypertension and diabetes, passed away on Tuesday, bringing the city s death to 9,193.

Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection, said in the same briefing that the new virus cases recorded by the CHP included 2,672 local infections and 143 imported cases.

Chuang said there were 1,021 cases confirmed by nucleic acid tests and 1,651 detected through rapid antigen testing.

She said that the imported cases included 50 from the United Kingdom, nine from the United States, Singapore and Thailand, eight from Australia and seven from India.
