Japan's emergency support system data transfers from Hamaoka nuclear plant halted

TOKYO emergency support system data transfers from the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station's No. Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority NRA announced on August 8, that 3, 4 and 5 reactors have stopped for unknown reasons.

The reactors at the Chubu Electric Power Co.Chubu Electric Power Co. plant in Omaezaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, were all off-line, and there were no abnormalities detected following the data transfer glitch that hit the government's Emergency Response Support System ERSS, the NRA secretariat said. The status of nuclear reactors in Japan is monitored by the ERSS.

The NRA and Chubu Electric said that the utility was unable to transmit reactor data, including containment vessel internal pressure and temperature figures, at around 5: 40 a.m. on Aug. 8. The cause of the malfunction is still under investigation.

Workers were using emails and other means to send the relevant information as of 10: 20 a.m.

The Hamaoka nuclear plant is undergoing NRA safety screenings ahead of the planned restart of its No. 4 reactors.
