Lithuania Foreign Minister says it would be difficult to implement business ties with Russia

I am not sure how this would be implemented in practice, so I assess this as a theoretic political science discussion. In an interview with the news agency ELTA, Landsbergis says it raises many questions.

The foreign minister agreed with the opinion of the Office of the President that Lithuania has well safeguarded its strategic sectors from Russia's influence.

Now other countries wishing to protect their strategic sectors and business from the influence of hostile states are examining Lithuania's practices, according to the Conservative leader.

As regards completely breaking off business ties with Russia, the minister reiterated that it would be difficult to apply this in practice.

There are diplomatic relations and certain international commitments, according to Landsbergis. Lithuania, the EU and Russia have a trilateral agreement on the passage of passengers.

The Seimas have the right to discuss everything, so let's say that this theoretical discussion continues. Perhaps it will reach some sort of decision not necessarily at the level proposed, perhaps at a somewhat lesser level that could be implemented in practice and increase Lithuania's security, said the foreign minister.

As reported in July, the Liberal Movement MP Lopata suggested that Lithuania should pass a law obliging companies to cut off business ties within three months since a country is recognized to be a state sponsor or perpetrator of terrorism.
