Man accused of murdering ex-boyfriend called woman minutes after killing, jury tells

A man accused of killing his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend and shredding part of his body in a woodchipper near Gympie allegedly called the woman minutes after and told her it's done, a jury has heard.

Gregory Roser is on trial in the Supreme Court after pleaded not guilty in November 2017 to the murder of Bruce Saunders.

It is said that Mr Roser killed the 54-year-old, when the couple and another man, Peter Koenig, were clearing trees at a Goomboorian.

His lawyer denied his client murdered Mr Saunders, instead claiming that Mr Koenig carried out the killing, but claiming that Mr Roser helped dispose of the body.

The court has already heard that Koenig pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact that he was murdered earlier this year.

On Wednesday, Mr Koenig continued to give evidence against Mr Roser, telling the court about the night Mr Saunders died.

I turned around and looked at him, and he said that Mr Saunders was lying on the ground.

Greg was there with the bar and he struck him a couple of times on the head.

He said when asked why he helped put Mr Saunders' body in the machine, he said he was not sure if we had to dispose of the body to make it look like an accident.

The court has already heard that Mr. Roser and Mr Koenig were allegedly counselled or procured to kill Mr Saunders by Sharon Graham, a woman described as being in a love quadrangle with all three men.

Ms Graham, who had previously been in a relationship with Mr Roser, was set to benefit from a life insurance policy that was taken out by Mr Saunders, who she had previously been in a relationship with.

Ms Graham had also been on trial for murder but on Tuesday Justice Martin Burns told the jury he would be separating their matters, with her new trial to be held next year.

Mr Koenig told the court that shortly after Mr Saunders died, Mr Roser called Ms Graham and said it was done before he handed over the phone to Mr Koenig and yelling out Bruce, Bruce what have you done. He passed the phone to me, and he started screaming I said to Ms Graham Bruce had gone through the machine, he said.

During cross examinations by Mr Roser's lawyer, he admitted he told Ms Graham job was done. The court heard after Mr Koenig was arrested, he lied to police multiple times to protect Ms Graham, saying she had nothing to do with what happened.

Mr Koenig was constantly questioned about his loyalty to Ms Graham, and his relationship status, despite the couple having multiple sexual encounters, despite the fact that he told police was akin to brother and sister.

He told the court that was what it felt like.

The court heard that police had found dozens of explicit photographs and videos of Ms Graham and Mr Koenig on his phone, with the most recent exchanges two months after Mr. Saunders' death.

Around this time, he gave her $10,000, which she never repaid.

The court heard that Peter Koenig was allegedly asked to kill before he was killed.

Before Mr Saunders' death, he told the court that Ms Graham had asked him to kill another former partner and make it look like a trucking accident because he had a lot of superannuation money. She was a beneficiary of it, he said.

Mr Koenig said he just agreed with it to keep her happy, but he had no intention of following through.

I didn't do anything, he's still alive today, he said.
