Phil Ballmer says Clippers are 'going to have their own identity'

Ballmer s new area in Inglewood will be called Intuit Dome and is expected to open officially in 2024. The practice area, team offices, retail space and more will be on the site.

I needed to say, "We are our own guys." In the same place we don't play with other guys. We're going to have our own identity, Ballmer told ESPN.

The price tag for the arena is $2 billion. However, it will be more than enough to get some of the shadow cast by the Lakers after having played at Staples Center for so long.

I've never been in a town where there was two teams in a village. Who is a Pistons fan? I think for enough years the Clippers were bad enough, everybody could ignore the Clippers, Ballmer said.

We're some people proud now, and we're going to be good year in and year out. We're going to build our own building, more of our own identity, more of our own personality. And I think some of the fans on the other side, if you are like, it's like, What? Ballmer said the Clippers are building their own presence, identity and isn t worried about Lakers fans feeling threatened that the Clippers are starting to finally own their own space in the City of Angels.

The arena is expected to be filled with an impressive amount of advanced technology. The hope is that fans will be able to walk to a concession stand, grab a beverage and or snack and go straight into their seats. There is no plan for any cashier to charge the order and a customer s account would also be taken automatically.

The suites won't have television in them as they want those who buy those seats to watch the game.

It s about basketball and we re trying to make you back in your seat as quickly as we can, Ballmer said.

The jubilant NBA team owner touted the imminent Wall. Beyond the end of the court where the team's opponents will have their bench will be 51 stands at each other, with seats for about 4,700 people. He hopes that the fans in that section will generate an impact on the game and make as much sound as possible.

I mean, if we ve got to use it right, we ve got to activate the fans there said Ballmer.

Los Angeles will hope to keep their latest solid run of playoff appearances up ahead of the opening of the new arena and may even open the dome with a championship.

The Clippers nearly made NBA Finals last season. Their Western Conference title appearance is their first in franchise history.
