Polish prime minister says households will have to cover rising costs

Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister, said that Polish households will be affected by rising costs of energy, but said part of these costs will be covered by energy companies.

Households are affected by an increase but a large part of the increase is already covered by the Polish state, for example through the law on coal subsidies, according to Morawiecki after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

The prime minister said energy companies must cover a part of the raise by reducing their demands for higher tariffs.

He said that they can't be left untouched in the midst of this crisis.

The government has decided to give one-off subsidies of PLN 3,000 EUR 637 for households that use coal as the main source of heating.
