Razorpay appoints former Amazon CTO Murali Brahmadesam as MD

As a former executive at Amazon Web Services, the former CTO and co-founder of Razorpay, Murali Brahmadesam is set to take over the new position of managing director MD According to a statement from the company, the company said that the former CTO and co-founder Shashank Kumar, who has more than 20 years of experience, has an in-depth understanding of managing various technological activities at scale.

Brahmadesam has worked mostly with Amazon and Microsoft throughout his career, holding numerous technical and executive responsibilities while working in India and the USA. Prior to joining Razorpay, he was the global engineering leader for AWS's distributed storage and Aurora database engines.

Murali was welcomed by Razorpay's co-founder and current managing director, Shashank Kumar. Since its inception, engineering has been the heart of growth for Razorpay. With over an 800-man engineering team, we are constantly working to solve some of the toughest challenges businesses face today, with innovation at its core. Murali brings in-depth knowledge of managing technology functions at scale. Kumar said that he is excited to have him on board at a time when Razorpay is making strides into global markets and further deepening its expertise with all business payments and business banking.

As a technology-based company, the new CTO has a role in leading the organisation's technology, engineering and innovation initiatives and coordinating them with corporate objectives. When he takes over the leadership, Murali is expected to oversee Razorpay's engineering strategy and development as well as the phenomenal expansion of Razorpay Engineering.

Murali Brahmadesam said that Razorpay has been at the forefront of inventing breakthrough products in business payment and banking that are relied upon by millions of businesses. I look forward to working with the team and joining Razorpay's mission to build the central nervous system for fintech in India. Razorpay has a workforce of around 2300 people and is one of the top fintech companies in India. The participation of Lightspeed Venture Partners and other investors in the Bengaluru based startup saw Razorpay close to closing a $75 million secondary share sale.

The appointment of Murali comes at a time when Razorpay is bolstering its technological skills to create cutting-edge solutions that are diverse, inclusive, and secure by design.
