Sen. Roger Marshall blasts Manchin's energy permitting bill

Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., blasted Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin's energy permitting bill on Tuesday, telling Varney Co. that the reform legislation will raise energy costs across the country.

I'm going to put the over under that maybe 52 senators will vote yes on this, and it's going to take 60. This is a mountaineer kickback, good for West Virginia, bad for the rest of the country. This bill is inflationary and let me tell you exactly what I mean by that. The amendment will increase the cost of energy because energy is responsible for about one-third of the inflation.

It will allow the federal government to base their permitting decisions based on the origin of the energy, so they would allow a transmission line for wind and solar, but they wouldn't allow it for nuclear, coal, or natural gas. Let me tell you about the Kansas experiment. In Kansas, over 50% of electricity is generated by wind. We're paying a disproportionate share of the transmission cost and we're not reliable, and we're paying a lot of that out of the state. This is a horrible legislation.
