Three sources familiar with the matter said that multiple states have begun investigating potential violations in how Facebook, now known as Meta Platforms Inc FB.O, runs its virtual reality Oculus business.

Sources said the U.S. Federal Trade Commission was also involved in the antitrust investigation. Meta did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

One source said that New York, North Carolina and Tennessee were among the states involved in the inquiry. A group of almost 50 states on Friday asked an appeals court to reinstate their antitrust suit against Facebook, which was filed in December 2020. One of the sources said that the inquiries into Facebook's Oculus business are part of the larger investigation.

The offices of the attorneys general of Tennessee, North Carolina and New York did not respond to requests for comment.
