Singapore-bound SIA passenger travel rises 13 fold

A total of 1,452, 500 passengers flew in April, an increase of 13 fold from a year ago after the removal of travel lane arrangements at the beginning of last month.

The latest operating results released on Tuesday showed that the two airlines carried around 1,216 per cent more passengers in April compared to a year ago. In April, the number of passengers increased by 62.7 per cent from March 2022.

The demand for air travel increased last month as Singapore eased travel restrictions, allowing visitors to enter the country quarantine-free and without on-arrival COVID 19 tests, said SIA Group. The pre-departure COVID- 19 test requirement was removed on April 26.

The Group said that many key markets for the SIA GroupSIA Group have relaxed their border control measures.

Passenger capacity went up steadily from 51 per cent of pre-COVID levels in March to 57 per cent in April. In May, the company said last month it expected passenger capacity to hit 61 per cent of pre-pandemic levels.
