Teen arrested for tweet that would blow up at Float Marina Bay

A teenager was arrested on Tuesday after he posted a tweet that he would blow up at The Float Marina Bay, where the National Day Parade was held on Tuesday August 9 at 7.10 pm. The police were informed that a person had posted on a Twitter account that an item would blow up under a seat at Row 27 of Marina Bay's floating platform.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Ang Mo Kio Police Division determined the identity of the 18-year-old and arrested him within two hours of the crime being reported.

There were no suspicious items found at The Float Marina Bay, according to preliminary investigations. Two mobile phones have been seized as case exhibits, according to the police on Wednesday, adding that investigations are ongoing.

More than 25,000 people attended the National Day Parade on Tuesday.

A person who is exposing false information about a harmful thing has a jail term of up to seven years, a fine of up to S $50,000 or more.
