The Vitamin Shoppe CEO says inflation has increased health care costs

According to a recent Gallup poll, 26% of Americans have delayed health care in the past six months due to rising medical costs and drug prices, The Vitamin Shoppe CEO said inflation can affect one's health and well-being.

Sharon Leite, CEO of FOX Business, told FOX Business Maria Bartiromo that there was no question that we have seen an increase in costs. We've seen price increases as it relates to the supply chain, but we're still navigating through that, as well as the quality ingredients that we put into our products, keeping up with that as well. On Mornings with Maria, Leite argued that consumers are taking control of their own health by investing in products that improve their definition of a healthy mind and body.

With everything that's going on, and what you've talked about with the economy, just the importance of sleep and mental health, Leite explained. We're seeing products selling along those lines. The CEO stated that consumers were focused on supporting immune health during the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that there is a market focused on building an active lifestyle.

There is a focus on getting out and active lifestyle that we are seeing right now. There's a lot of improvement in the sports nutrition category, whereas with COVID people were very focused on immune health, Leite said.

She said that has kind of gone away a bit, and we're seeing more people getting involved in sports nutrition. The CEO of The Vitamin Shoppe, who founded in 1977, assured the company that inflation hasn't impacted the company's ability to provide the best quality ingredients and expertise in the health space.

The consumer of Vitamin Shoppe has always skewed a little older, and we're able to reach a new consumer thanks to the pandemic, as it brings health to the central focus of consumers, according to Leite.

The CEO said that sometimes college students don't take their health seriously as they go off to campus life. We have a great opportunity to bring products to this particular consumer as they focus on their college years.
