Tokyo could see daily COVID-19 infections on February 3

According to estimates, the daily total of new coronaviruses in Tokyo could surge as high as 24,074 people on February 3, according to estimates unveiled at a Tokyo Metropolitan Government monitoring meeting on January 27.

The monitoring meetings of the metropolitan government look at coronaviruses. Experts at the meeting said that if infections increase at the current pace, then on February 3,074 people were expected to be newly infected. The omicron variant was suspected in 99% of the PCR tests for coronavirus variants in the week ending January 24.

Tokyo is currently at a Stage 4 alert level, denoting a sustained explosion of infections -- the worst in its four-tier system. The alert level on the medical system's ability to provide care continues to stay at the top, meaning that limiting normal health services and strengthening the system are necessary.
