
Agartala Tripura India January 9 ANI Amid a sharp spike in COVID 19 cases and a projection of over 32,000 infections in Tripura in the possible third wave, the state government has decided to impose a night curfew from 9 pm to 5 pm.
According to Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, curfew would be in force between 9 pm in the night and 5 am in the morning from January 10 to January 10, as per a series of meetings chaired by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Chief Secretary Kumar Alok.
In a press conference at Civil Secretariat here on Sunday evening, Cabinet spokesperson and ICA minister Chowdhury also informed that adequate preparations are afoot to tackle the third wave of COVID 19 if the current rise in the cases is considered the third wave of the epidemic.
He said that there were 689 positive cases reported through Saturday with the overall positivity rate of the state at five per cent. The test positivity rate of 16.95 per cent is being reported in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
According to Chowdhury, health experts have already sounded an alarm considering the present situation prevailing all over the state, and an initial projection of 32,000 cases has been set.
According to health experts and scientists, Tripura is expected to have over 32,000 cases and five per cent positivity rate that accounts for 1,617 cases per day, which would be serious in nature, he told mediapersons.
Tripura is prepared to tackle the third wave of COVID 19 with the availability of adequate health infrastructure across the state. He said two crucial meetings were held on Saturday and Sunday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Kumar Alok with officials of various departments and Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb with a council of ministers because of the increase in COVID cases in the state.
The minister said that a total of 3,880 children could be affected in the third wave and 194 could develop severe symptoms. He informed that there are 216 beds with ICU facilities in Agartala and 50 beds in each district are arranged for children.
Chowdhury spoke about the state's COVID 19 related infrastructure in detail.
All districts have been directed to open COVID 19 call centres and redressal cells. In the state, there are 2,562 total beds for COVID 19 patients and 700 beds are reserved for serious patients. He stated that 330 beds of these 700 beds are in various facilities of the West Tripura districtTripura district.
