A UK ticketholder has won more than 171 m with the EuroMillions jackpot, operator Camelot has announced.
Friday's national lottery winning numbers were: 14, 15, 22, 35, 48. No information will be released on whether the claimant is an individual or a syndicate winner, unless the ticketholder decides to go public.
The amount is just 24 m short of the record EuroMillions win. In July, an anonymous UK ticketholder scooped a 195 million lottery win, which was the biggest national lottery win of all time.
The previous record-holders were Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester whose winning ticket saw them win 184,262, 899 in May.
According to this year s Sunday Times Rich List, their windfall means they are wealthier than pop singers Adele, who is worth 150 m and Tom Jones, who is worth 180 m.
Joe Thwaite told a press conference near Cheltenham: I looked at the amount and put the phone down. I picked up the phone again, and looked at the amount again.
He said that it was first thought it was in the thousands, but then he started counting the digits. It's amazing and also surreal. The EuroMillions draw is held twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, and is played in nine European countries.
