Washington State football coach fired for refusing to get vaccine

The firing of Washington State University head football coach Nick Rolovich for refusing to get a Covid vaccine was the most public-flag consequence of several statewide vaccine mandates for government workers that took effect Monday night.

Monday was the final day in Washington for more than 800,000 workers, including those from state agencies, schools and health care facilities, to prove they had been fully vaccinated against coronavirus. The mandate, is issued by Gov. In August Jay Inslee is among the strictest in the country.

Near 1,600 state executive bureaucrats missed the Sunday vaccination deadline in Pennsylvania, the administration of Gov. Mike Miller said. Charlie Baker announced on Monday. These unvaccinated workers, who do not have the option to file periodic testing instead of getting vaccinated, now face suspension and the loss of their jobs. Governor Baker does not anticipate staffing shortages in Massachusetts, the statement said, but some politicians say requiring vaccines will strain an already stressed workforce.

The governor s executive order was unsuccessfully challenged by the unions representing state prison guards and state police officers in court.
