India and Italy Strengthen Strategic Partnership, Discuss G20 Outcomes at G7 Summit

India and Italy reaffirm commitment to strengthen bilateral strategic partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Italian counterpart, Georgia Meloni, held a telephone conversation on Thursday, April 25, 2024. During the conversation, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the bilateral strategic partnership between India and Italy.

Prime Minister Modi extended his greetings to Prime Minister Meloni and the people of Italy on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of Liberation Day. He also expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the G7 Summit Outreach Sessions, scheduled to be held in June 2024 in Puglia, Italy.

The leaders discussed the importance of carrying forward the key outcomes from India's G20 Presidency, particularly those initiatives that support the Global South, at the upcoming G7 Summit under Italy's Presidency. They reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership between the two countries.

The conversation also included an exchange of views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

G7 Summit and Italy's Presidency

The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal forum comprising Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. The European Union also participates in the Group and is represented at the summits by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission.

Italy assumed the Presidency of the G7 for the seventh time on January 1, 2024. The Italian Presidency will continue until December 31, 2024.
