Postponement of Delhi Mayor and Deputy Mayor Elections Due to Lack of Presiding Officer Nomination

The election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Delhi has faced a delay as the nomination of the Presiding Officer, which is a mandatory requirement under Section 77(a) of the DMC Act, 1957 (as amended 2022), did not occur. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Secretary issued an official notice informing about the postponement, with the agenda items regarding the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor being pushed back due to this development.

According to the original schedule, the election was supposed to take place on April 26 at 11 am, pending the necessary clearances and the appointment of the Presiding Officer. However, since the nomination of the Presiding Officer did not happen, the election had to be postponed in adherence to the legislative requirements. The notice mentioned that without the nomination of the Presiding Officer, it would not be feasible to conduct the elections for Mayor and Deputy Mayor as initially planned.
