Congress to Announce Lok Sabha Candidates List Including Pending Seats in Uttar Pradesh

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal revealed that the party is set to unveil its upcoming list of Lok Sabha candidates within the next two days, with a focus on filling the pending seats in Uttar Pradesh. During a Central Election Committee meeting held by the Congress, discussions were centered around the candidates for crucial seats in Uttar Pradesh, particularly Raebareli and Amethi. Venugopal responded to inquiries about the new candidate list by stating that the release is imminent, expected within one or two days.

Sources indicated that a proposal was put forward by the Uttar Pradesh Congress to the CEC, recommending that the Gandhi family should contest the coveted seats in Amethi and Raebareli, with the final decision left in the hands of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Despite the anticipation surrounding these seats, the Congress has refrained from making any official statements regarding the Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, both historically strongholds for the party until the 2019 elections. The setback experienced in 2019 saw Rahul Gandhi losing to BJP's Smriti Irani in Amethi, marking the end of his 15-year representation of the constituency.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi is currently aiming for a second term in Parliament from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, where he achieved a significant victory during the 2019 elections. With the ongoing progress of the seven-phase Lok Sabha election that commenced on April 19, the Congress has already disclosed 308 candidates for various constituencies, as they gear up for the upcoming electoral contests.
